Carly and Tait got married September 24, 2011 at The Evergreen Lakehouse.
Lot's a planning and detail. They collected the old keys, vintage frames and vases for the decor.
Beautiful paper for the hand-made paper airplanes.
The bridemaids dresses with a colorful print, each different and each girl wearing cowboy boots.

Organic Wedding

Rebecca came into my studio to discuss her wedding flowers for Sept 4th a few months back.
She told me she and her fiancé were "foodies"
and having fresh vegetables, herbs, and hops was most important.
They provided the fresh vegies from an organic farm and each table had a different theme, such as
Corn, Squash, Eggplant, Tomatoes, Carrots....I added fresh mint, sage, rosemary, lavender, moss, cones, hops and berries. I really liked how they turned out!
I got fresh radishes from the local market to add to the bride and bridesmaids bouquets.
The scent was unbelievably fresh and calming from all of the herbs.

Baby Succulents

I love succulents. Really. I do. When a bride comes to me and tells me they want to use succulents in their wedding...I get excited. They just have so much personality.
This weekend, I have a bride who will be having these on her tables.
Succulents, moss and canning jars. And, of course, a lily grass tie.

Dunafon Castle

Dunafon Castle is a private residence that occasionally allows for special events.
The castle was built in 1941 and is surrounded by the Bear Creek
and water falls and ponds.
Simply a beautiful pristine setting. It is a treat to design flowers
for weddings held at the castle.

I've been a florist for longer than I've been a Mom.
I've loved seeing my sons' friends from baby hood and kindergarten grow up.
I got to design wedding flowers for one of my son's classmate that I met in his kindergarten!
This was a first for me. I've done the prom flowers, birthday flowers, first date flowers,
and now, wedding flowers. Kind of cool.
And, Mary was a beautiful and chill bride. Congratulations, Mary and Josh!

Chelsea & Brandon got married July 2nd in the sweetest garden at the Mount Vernon Event Center in Golden.

Incredibly fragrant bouquet of creamy white "Patience" Garden Roses,
Stephonotis, freesia, stock, mums, and even carnations.
The subtle scent of each of these flowers made a wonderful combination
of fragrance.

sweet and small nosegays of butter cream carnations!

It's a HOT and casual day today. A sweet couple came in and she told me he wanted to buy her flowers. He shooed her away, so it could be a "surprise", and we picked flowers.
I asked the occasion. He said he is leaving for the army in a few days.
They were just so giddy and sweet. After he presented her with the bundle of blooms,
I noticed they were just sitting on the swing on the deck. I just had to capture them.

Natalie called me a couple of months ago to order just one bridal bouquet. Anything I would like to do. Any flower, any color. She and her fiance', Brandon were flying to Evergreen, Colorado for the weekend to get a way, and get married!
They stayed at the cutest B&B, The Highland Haven. When they arrived, they
just drove around in our beautiful mountains and decided to have the ceremony on a rock that sat in the middle of Bear Creek, at Lair of the Bear.
The officiant, Linda Lehman-Murphy from Heartsongs was amazing at
accommodating the couple.
The photographer, Ms. Cora Kemp owner of C Kemp Shoot Photography and her assistant, Isaac Small, captured the whole event and, as you will see, the photos are stunning!
Just the couple, the officiant, and two photographers and one very fragrant bouquet!

Are flowers really relevant to our lifestyle? What is their value?
I buy fresh flowers every day. Well, I am a florist.
I either leave them in vases for people to buy loosely, or I design them into a bit of fresh art.
I then deliver them to people for any number of reasons.
I have been in the flower business since 1978. I am amazed that people still have fresh flowers in their lives as they did then. Maybe more so.

I don't just sell flowers. I sell the value they hold, the feelings and emotions they represent. Flowers influence the emotions. Flowers can speak volumes. Flowers are given for the moment, to get or to give that unique feeling that buzzes up inside your soul.
This feeling is something you get when you give flowers and also the same feeling you get when you receive flowers.
If you have never experienced this, try delivering a bundle of flowers to someone.
The recipient is so excited. The emotions are unrehearsed and real and the feeling actually transcends onto you. The power of flowers. Like a runners high.

I love the part that I play in peoples lives. Very happy or very sad occasions.
I think that the most meaningful part of my job is delivering the flowers and seeing the look in the eyes and the smile on the face of the recipient.

Yesterday, I received two phone calls from a person who just received a very simple gesture of flowers. It was apparently from a friend that she hadn't seen in so long and this friend just wanted to let her know she was thinking of her.
She called first to say how lovely. Then called me again to say that she was so happy that her friend somehow knew to call me, in her words, "she found the best florist to call".

Handing flowers to Frank, the man who's wife had just died. He was so touched that someone thought of him to send beautiful flowers.
He was moved enough to tell me about his wife. It released his heartfelt emotions.

A new baby girl was born this week. The mother received a bouquet to mark the day and to ease the pain of delivery.

The men who spent great detail in writing their cards for Valentines Day, and actually choosing flowers that they feel would make their love shine.
The men who do not send flowers on this "forced" holiday, but, send then all year long, for no reason at all.

The hostess who opens the door to her guests and is given flowers to show their appreciation.

Flowers help feed our need for serenity, inspiration, wellness, gratitude, love and optimism.

Are flowers still relevant? I believe so.

The Bistro tables had two lovely orchids in tall shot glasses. Only, the wind was with

us today.and sometimes we need a little support from nature.

We sent the guys on a rock hunt and I think it added a nice touch.

A bit about the Blue Bom Dendrobium orchid, which we fondly call them
"Tie Dye Orchids" @ Stems.

They are exotic and opulent, and make a breathtaking sight at your wedding or special event.

Our grower in Thailand takes a purple orchid and enhances the color just a bit with blue dye,

creating a smashing intense color.

Alyssa got the full package. Handheld bouquet, flower ring and hairpiece.

This is how we assemble the corsages. Line them up
on the "corsage bar" and make four at a time. Its a
tedious, sticky, messy procedure, but, the outcome
is worth it.

We had several schools with proms this weekend, to keep them organized,

each school had a different colored box.

These two decided to meet at Stems to pick up their flowers

before they headed out for the evening.

Anemone.

This just might be my favorite cut flower.

Comes from the Greek word , "windflower", the petals close in the dark and the cool,

and opens with the light and the warmth. It is said that the anemone
sprang from Aphrodite's tears as she mourned the death of her lover, Adonis.

Represents anticipation.

Rightly so, as when these flowers open, I feel a fresh flirt with spring.

I love surprises. I went to the mailbox today and received a complimentary issue of

Premier Bride. I randomly opened this tasteful publication and the first page I open

is a beautiful photo of our flowers! In fact, there were pages of our designs including

the wedding of Chris and Britta's wedding at Ten Mile Station who are one of the

featured couples.

The photos were all from Chris Sharber Photography, a local Evergreen Photographer

who are just awesome to work with, and, their work is exquisite.

The Poor Carnation

Carnations were one of my first loves.
I love the delicate, sweet fragrance of cloves,
the longevity, the colors.
Especially the deep, deep purples and lime greens,
and, yes, white just might be my favorite.
The poor carnation. Such a bad rap. They just got overused...sold on every street corner, grocery store and used everywhere.
They were designed poorly, just poked in here and
there just to take up space.
Then, they got shoved aside without even knowing what it was they did wrong.
When I opened my second shop, 20 years after the first, I became a carnation snob.
My rule was...no carnations..they are a "special order".
But, how could I turn my back on my old faithful
friends? I love the carnation designed in a mass
and all one shade. Lush.
I am so enjoying creating clean, sleek, modern designs with them. I love to present a showy carnation piece
and hear the comments from my customers,"I don't
normally like carnations, but, that is really, really
cool."

The Annual SKATE the LAKE has been a New Year's Eve tradition since 1996. Winter Festival offers ice-skating, fireworks, fire barrel bonfires, sleigh rides, food, music and ice games such as pick-up hockey and broom-stick hockey along with games/ activities (jump castles, face painting), lots of food vendors, music and dancing all on firm ground!

The spectacular fireworks display will be lit over the ice – not just at midnight but first at 8:00 p.m. for the youngsters in the crowd. Once you've experienced it, you will always remember how magical it is.

Skate the Lake Winter Festival is a non-alcohol event, geared to families and those who wish to ring in the New Year safely, without a hang-over. The event is open from 6 pm to 12 midnight, New Year's Eve.

My door is always propped open as an invitation for people to come inside and browse.
And people do, all day long.
Is there anything better than having your coffee in hand and
stroll thru an environment filled with living plants, flowers and a pond with fish and a waterfall?
I love that we can provide a soothing moment or two of calm in their day. Being around living plants is an amazing stress reliever and the air is pure. Something about the scent of wet soil is energizing.
No need to buy anything, just come in for common scents.
Plants not only add beauty to a room, but also make it an inviting
place to work and live.
Plants have a calming, almost spiritual effect on people.
Teresa, one of my favorite customers came in the other day and was
looking for particular plants by name. She said she needed them
for her office which had a printer. When I inquired why it had to be a certain type of a plant, she filled me in on an article that she had just read about these particular plants that would help absorb the toxins that were being emitted by her printer’s ink cartridges.
I decided I’d better do the same, get a plant or two for my office.
Wait a minute. My “office" or my “workplace”, has plenty of
plants! I should be safe, since it is recommended to place one
house plant per 100 square feet. I think Stems is covered.

Gaseous chemicals like formaldehyde and benzene, known as
human carcinogens are found in a number of household items like pressed-wood furniture, plastic bags, computer ink, paper towels, carpeting and adhesives, to name a few!

These gases cause indoor air to be 2 to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air, according to the EPA, causing adverse health problems,
including asthma, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and have
been linked to Sick Building Syndrome and SIDS.
“Most newborn babies come home from the hospital to a freshly painted nursery, with new carpeting, crib, mattresses, blankets and clothing. Very likely to be high in chemical emissions.” according to Dr. B.C. Woverton, author of How to Grow Fresh Air.

NASA had done extensive studies on how the earth produces
and sustains clean air. The result is through the living processes
of plants, which create a mini ecosystem. We need plants to clean
our air, which we pollute so generously.
Plants actually absorb the toxins and have the ability to clean our air.
A relatively inexpensive way to purify the air we breathe.
Most plants absorb the toxins, but some do a better job of it than others. And, the best part is that the ones that work the most efficiently are the easiest to have around.
In How to Grow Fresh Air, 50 plants have been tested and rated according to efficiency of removing chemical vapors and ease of care.
To name a few of the top air purifiers: Areca Palm, Boston Fern,
Rubber Plant, Weeping Fig, Dracena, English Ivy, Peace Lily, Orchid, & Poinsettia.

We had a great design class this week and
this is one of the designs that we made.
The participants all got to create their own
version of this Autumn centerpiece, and,
all were different and very good! Several
easy designs were demonstrated and
hopefully everyone left the class with
inspiration!

Red Rocks Wedding

I love weddings at the Rock Room at Red Rocks Amphitheater.
The wedding was held on the balcony with the amazing
well known Red Rocks as the backdrop.

The bride wanted an all natural and textural bouquet.
She loved fountain grass, sedum, dusty miller, artichokes,
kale and fern. So fun to vary from the norm!

Awesome Wedding

Mother of the bride did amazing artwork on the champagne glasses,
aisle runner and galvanized tins for the ceremony.
Food was served by Sage Creek Catering.

Bride carried purple and

lime green hydrangea, dahlias and green fugi mums,
encased in lily grass.
Wedding was at the Evergreen Lakehouse.

Mount Evans Wedding

This weekend we did weddings at
Tenmile Station in Breckenridge,
The Oxford Hotel, private homes, and beautiful
Mount Evans Ranch. The guests camped in tents
for the long weekend at the ranch.
Loved the bicycles.Here's what you can do with your collection
of old albums. The bride melted the
album in an oven which created a bowl.
Actually looked pretty cool with her
black and white theme.
The bride and her girls carried a bright bouquets of
orange Asiatic lilies, yellow light eye sunflowers,
red roses, lime green hydrangea, purple freesia and
orange Gerbera daisies.

Evergreen Lakehouse Wedding

Stems Flower Shop is located right across from
Evergreen Lake.
The Lakehouse is a beautiful log building and the lake
is the centerpiece of our town.
